Green Digital Twin

Climate protection meets digitalization

How can existing buildings be managed in a climate-neutral way?

The Green Digital Twin feasibility study provides concrete answers - with a digital, data-based approach to sustainable real estate management across the entire life cycle.

Climate neutrality by 2045 - a common goal

Decarbonizing the building sector is key to achieving climate targets. However, without valid and centrally available data, reliable planning and evaluation is hardly possible. This is where the Green Digital Twin comes in - with the clear goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2045.

Study in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Model project for the Green Digital Twin

The Green Digital Twin feasibility study was the first pioneering step in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The aim was to examine the feasibility and potential of a digital, transferable instrument for the sustainable management of public properties - with a focus on climate-neutral building operation by 2045.

Partner of the study:

  • Wismar University of Applied Sciences
  • University of Rostock
  • State building and
  • Property management in
  • Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania
    IAIB e.V.
  • pit-cup GmbH as software partner

pit-cup GmbH provided the technological basis and contributed its expertise for a data-driven ecosystem. In focus: selected buildings at Wismar University of Applied Sciences and the University of Rostock - part of the sustainable state concept „blu“.

A digital image for sustainable processes

The study takes a holistic approach across the entire life cycle of real estate - from planning to operation. It is based on a central data platform with AI, visualization and monitoring that enables resource-efficient building operation.

Aims of the study at a glance

  • Data provision: Structured recording & linking
  • Analysis: AI-supported identification of potential savings
  • Action planning: development of sustainable strategies
  • Monitoring & benchmarking: Ongoing optimization and comparability

Challenges from the field

The study identifies typical problem areas:

  • Heterogeneous, manually maintained data sources
  • Lack of ESG standards in standards such as IFC or CAFM Connect
  • Non-networked systems and inconsistent object data
  • Energy management without AI support
  • Lack of scalability for large portfolios

The solution: Green Digital Twin with the pitEcoSystem+

A lot of ESG-relevant building data is currently available in isolated systems. With pitFM and the pitEcoSystem+, this information is intelligently networked - and thus forms the basis for the Green Digital Twin.

The platform:

  • makes structured building data centrally available
  • enables AI-supported energy analyses
  • supports a continuous improvement process through monitoring & benchmarking

This is what the Green Digital Twin offers you:

  • Smart interfaces for the integration of existing systems
  • Automated energy optimization with AI
  • Scalable data models - from individual objects to portfolios
  • Real-time monitoring and a sound basis for decision-making

The added value for you

Up to 30 % savings in heating energy consumption Significant CO₂ reduction in building operation Strong evidence of the potential of data-based solutions in FM.

European funding as an enabler

The project was funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) as part of the state program MV 2021-2027. The results form the basis for a possible follow-up project - with nationwide relevance.
